This is my 100th post!
I thought this might be a good time to consider what I’m doing here. When I started this blog, it was because I had a lot on my mind and nowhere to go with it. I was feeling discouraged with the world and needed a place to vent some of my frustration. The first thing I wrote here was A Little About Me. Here are a few lines from it:
One of the things I have learned over the years is that there is quite a lot wrong in the world. As much as we may want to improve things, though, there are certain things which will never likely change. Sometimes our only option is to vent, rant and rave, and that is the purpose of this blog.
While I still believe that some things will never completely change, my blogging experience has come to be more than just venting and ranting to no end. In a world where far too many people still cannot speak freely, I have come to consider blogging a privilege. Not only does it give me the opportunity to speak openly and freely, I’m now speaking publicly for the first time in my life, and that means something!
Don’t get me wrong; I don’t think my blog is going to change the world. But my blogging — everyone’s blogging — changes something. The simple act of blogging is a change in itself — more people are speaking publicly than ever in the history of mankind, so, in a way, our collective blogging has changed the world.
Blogging is also educational. Not only do I learn things from other blogs, but every time I write I do some research to make sure I have my facts straight. That’s not to say I’m never wrong, but I make an effort to post accurately. Not only because other people will be reading, but because I enjoy learning for the sake of it.
My readership is not huge, but I do appreciate it. While I certainly get more views than comments, people are reading what I write, and I don’t want to take that for granted or abuse it in any way. I will continue to rant and rave when I need to; I’m still Lottie, and Lottie does ramble on. But I will do so with a greater awareness and appreciation for what I’m doing and those following along.
My first effort to better accommodate readers will be to try and keep my posts shorter. Many of my posts have been between 1500 and 2000 words or more. I realize that people trying to keep up with several blogs while maintaining their own and managing everything else in their lives may not have time to sit and read my long-winded posts. I will do my best to keep each post at 500 words or less, give or take.
Thank you, friends and readers. It’s been great so far, and I think it’s going to get even better!
