A Little About Me

I am forty one two years old, mother to the greatest kid in the world, and engaged to deeply in love with an incredibly wonderful man who I will marry in married on March 20th of this year. I am an atheist living in the Bible Belt, and my political views are so far left that I am often called a socialist – and they say it like it’s a bad thing!

I’ve experienced quite a lot in my short time on the planet. I’d say most of it was good, because even the rotten stuff has helped me become who and what I am today, which is pretty damn good, if I say so myself.

One of the things I have learned over the years is that there is quite a lot wrong in the world. As much as we may want to improve things, though, there are certain things which will never likely change. Sometimes our only option is to vent, rant and rave, and that is the purpose of this blog.

Here is where I will ramble on about pet peeves and annoying stuff people do and how I feel things should be, always bearing in mind that these are merely my ideas of a perfect world, and most people are likely to disagree with me. Cynical? Perhaps. But this has been my experience, which is why I have decided to ramble here, where this world and I are safe from one another.

    Someday I’ll come out as the atheist I really am instead of hiding under the vague term of ‘agnostic.’ It’s hard being an atheist in the Lutheran state of Minnesota. ;-)

    When I was a kid, my Dad found a word in an obscure dictionary that I use to describe my religious beliefs: nullifidean.

    A nullifidean has no faith. I’m not comfortable saying I’m an atheist because I don’t have an answer about the existence of a God or higher being. I just have a sense that no higher being, if (s)he exists is having any impact on my life whatsoever. So …. no need to pray … and no need to worship.

    Still, it’s nice to see an avowed atheist in the blogosphere. Seems this country lately has made faith a prerequisite to participation in society. Just look at the Presidential race and the religious litmus test applied to all the candidates. Kinda disappointing if you ask me.

    I notice that you and I both made it onto someone’s “X” list. In other words, we are on their blogroll, but they have stricken through our names.

    I read through a bit of the writings, and being stricken makes me proud. Sounds like an arrogant ass. However, he obviously thinks we have something to say that he is keeping track of because we are still on his blogroll.
